The work of engineering genius, Harry Ferguson, who pioneered the development of the Ferguson tractor and built and flew his own plane, will be outlined in a talk to be held in the Community Centre, Derrygonnelly on Friday evening next, September 3.
The talk will be of interest to farmers, collectors of vintage tractors, or indeed anyone with an interest in the development and function of Ferguson and Massey Ferguson tractors.
George Conn who has worked in agricultural engineering will trace the work of the Irish engineer and inventor Henry George “Harry” Ferguson from an engineering and Christian perspective.
Harry Ferguson is noted for his role in the development of the modern agricultural tractor, for becoming the first Irishman to build and fly his own aeroplane, and for developing the first four-wheel drive Formula One car, the Ferguson P99 . Today his name lives on in the name of the Massey Ferguson company.
George has been involved in speaking at these events in various locations and says, “These evenings are very popular with Ferguson enthusiasts. Farmers and tractor lovers enjoy talking about a machine which has served the farming community well for over 70 years and continues to be a very popular choice of tractor.”
The talk starts at 8pm.
