Farmers wanting to know more about online registration of livestock can access free training from DARD, according to Jonathan McFerran, DARD Online Services Manager.

He says all farmers want to save time, effort and money and by using the computer to register the births of calves this can be achieved. Currently, over 30% of all calf births are registered online using the computer system, APHIS Online and it is hoped to increase this figure to 50% over the next year.

To help move from the traditional paper forms to the online system DARD are offering farmers free training on APHIS Online at local venues across Northern Ireland. During the training course there will be access to APHIS Online where herd details can be viewed and advice on all benefits that APHIS Online has to offer including:

* Registration of cattle births, deaths and stillborns;

* DARD notification of all cattle movements out of and into herds;

* Current DARD herd list to view, print and download;

* Detailed information about animals, including comprehensive movement and calving history;

* Post and ante mortem information of slaughtered animals;

* Reporting, which counts and classifies animals in accordance with the Nitrates Action Programme;

* Registrations checking. APHIS Online will highlight any problems.

Apart from APHIS Online, there are many other DARD Online Services such as online farm maps, Single Farm Payment online and the nitrate calculators. This range of services is free, secure and easy to use.

For more information or to register interest on a course now, please contact the APHIS Online Helpdesk on 028 9442 6699 or email info@ruralni.gov.
