New awards at County Show

There was a food theme at the launch of this year's Fermanagh County Show on Tuesday. Not only was the launch held at Belle Isle Estate, the home of Belle Isle Cookery School but the guest speaker was someone who knows plenty aobut food produced in Northern Ireland - Graham Furey, the Chairman of Food NI.
Graham, the immediate past President of the Ulster Farmers' Union, spoke about what makes Fermanagh great in terms of agriculture and food.
Guests who included sponsors and supporters of this year's show which is to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 2 and 3, were then treated to a reception of food.
The event was hosted by Charles and Fiona Plunkett in the magnificent house and gardens at Belle Isle where Lord Anthony Hamilton, Chairman of the Show Committee, took the opportunity to welcome the many guests, sponsors and friends of the Show who had gathered for the launch and expressed his appreciation for their continued support. A wide range of livestock, home industry, pet and schools classes along with the Local Food Festival supported by O'Doherty's Butchers, Enniskillen, Safefood and the Northern Ireland Regional Food Programme. There are also numerous trade stands and attractions to cater for all members of the family including a Donkey Derby, Miniature Horse Show and Dog Show.

This year in the livestock section, the Show will be announcing the 'Fermanagh Young Handler Bonus Scheme' which has been developed in conjunction with the Vaughan Trust to encourage the next generation of showing enthusiasts. A valuable bonus of £50 will be awarded to the highest placed Fermanagh exhibitor in each of the young handler classes.
The Fermanagh Pedigree Livestock Breeders Ltd. make a welcome return to the Show after a short break last year.
In the Commercial Beef Classes, Fermanagh County Show is pleased to be hosting a qualifier for the Northern Ireland Commercial Cattle Exhibitors Club.
In the Dairy classes, the Pedigree Holstein section has been generously sponsored by longstanding supporters. The All Ireland Championship Classes also carry valuable prizemoney.
The Dairy Section will be rounded off by The All Ireland Dairy Championship, in conjunction with Fane Valley Feeds providing an exciting finish to proceedings.
The sheep classes at Fermanagh County Show have something for all sheep enthusiasts.
There will also be poultry with a new award this year being "The Peoples' Choice - most popular bird of the show." In the rare breeds section there will be new classes for Jacob sheep.
The Impartial Reporter has generously sponsored the School Section again this year.
