If you are a highly motivated, ambitious person with a preference for working in an outdoor environment then the College of Agriculture Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is the place for you, says Rachel Elder, lecturer at CAFRE.

The new Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture offered at Greenmount Campus is a one year programme which aims to fully equip students with the skills necessary to work within the agricultural industry or return home to farm. A wide range of subjects are covered from Farm Animal Production to Environment and Land Based Business, alongside a variety of practical skills taught on farm. All aspects of your chosen subject are covered, with up to date information supplied by knowledgeable enthusiastic lecturers, with guidance and support freely available.

The College projects a warm, friendly atmosphere to all students in a relaxed environment - just what is required for your first time away from home! Facilities at the campus are superb with state of the art technology available for all aspects of learning. Emphasis is placed on 'learning by doing' so students can get to grips with all the aspects of practical work. Many students have the opportunity to put theory into practice by actually working on areas of the College estate.

The period of work placement, which the College actively encourages, is a great learning experience. It proves a challenge for many students, but provides a valuable insight into the world of work whilst also improving future employment prospects. Finally, if you need further convincing, the social aspect of college life is vibrant with many clubs and societies, which all come highly recommended!
