Debbie takes over the reins at Equine Council
A Fermanagh woman with a background in development and marketing work in the horse industry, has been appointed the new development officer with the Equine Council for Northern Ireland.
Debbie Black was appointed to the post in late 2011 and is currently based in the Equine Council for Northern Ireland's office in Cookstown. The Council is now formally established.
Debbie who lives near Lisbellaw with her husband, James and daughters, Emily (3) and Alice (1), is a graduate of Queen's University, Belfast, where she studied agriculture before completing the British Horseracing Board Graduate Development Programme in Newmarket in 2001.
She spent eight years as a member of the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing (ITM) Team based in Kildare. In the role of Marketing Executive, she was responsible for international advertising and marketing campaigns, also travelling on overseas market visits to promote Ireland as a premier location to purchase bloodstock.
She has been better known in recent years as the secretary of Fermanagh Farming Society and organiser of the Fermanagh County Show. She has resigned from her post to enable to devote her time to her now role.
The Chairman of ECNI, Tony Mc Cusker, in welcoming the appointment said "This is an important step in the development of the Council and will enable us to take forward the implementation of the Strategic Review and provide an effective link between the industry and government"
Commenting on her new appointment, Debbie stated, "I am excited to be taking up the post of Development Officer with the Equine Council for Northern Ireland and look forward working with its Chairman, Tony McCusker and the rest of the Council Members to build on the strong foundation that has already been laid.
ECNI represents the views of the horse industry in Northern Ireland and I look forward to meeting with all sectors of the industry in the coming months."
The Equine Council for Northern Ireland has also launched the first phase of its website at www.equinecouncilni.com. The site contains information on the organisation and will be developed over the coming months as an information portal for the Northern Irish equine sector.
ECNI is currently examining a number of key topics in the area of equine health and welfare and also looking at issues which directly affect equine businesses.
The Equine Council for Northern Ireland is an independent representative organisation serving the equine industry in Northern Ireland. The Council's main objective is to provide a voice for the sector as a whole and to represent the interests of horses, owners and the related equine businesses at all levels.
The Council covers all sectors of the industry and was formally established in its own right in
2011 as a direct result of the work of the Equine Sub-Group. It is currently made up of fourteen members who represent the Sport Horse, Thoroughbred, Education, Leisure and Ancillary sectors of the industry.
ECNI is grant funded by The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
