Allams beef show open for entries

Launching the 89th Allams Christmas Fatstock Show and Sale are Roy Gibson for Allams and Ann Calwell from Ulster Bank main sponsors of the event.

Allams of Belfast have just announced details of their Christmas Fatstock Show & Sale, including the Calf Spectacular and Young Handlers event, to be held at the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society Showgrounds, Balmoral, Belfast, on Tuesday, November 27 2012.For the eleventh year the main sponsor for the show will be Ulster Bank.

This year 25 competitive beef classes have been arranged, covering Angus, British Blue, British Blonde, Charolais, Hereford, Limousin, Simmental, Shorthorn and a continental beef cow class. Judging the beef classes, Ulster Bank championships and Ulster Bank supreme champion will be undertaken by Peter Hannan, from the Meat Merchant in Moira. Peter is no stranger to Allams and has previously judged and last year he purchased the Supreme Champion.

The Ulster Housewife's Championship will be judged by father and son, Will and Gareth Corrie from Newtownards, Co Down who are regular purchasers at this event. This year a weight limit will apply for the Ulster Housewife's Champion, animals weighing between 500kgs and 550kgs approx or at the judge's discretion will be eligible to come forward for this championship.

Last year the Calf Spectacular attracted a superb entry of 60 animals and this year 12 Classes covering all breeds have been arranged. The Calf Spectacular is sponsored by Norbrook Laboratories and judging will be in the capable hands of Peter Hannan.

The ever popular Young Handlers Competition will once again take place in the early afternoon. Sponsoring the Young Handlers Competition is the Reid Family from Aghalee, in memory of their late father Stanley. This year two classes have been arranged 8 to 12 years and 13 to 16 years and judging the competition will be Sharon Rothwell from Co Wicklow.

Ulster Bank will be sponsoring all the breed champions and reserves as well as the Supreme Champion and reserve and the popular Ulster Housewife's Champion and reserve. Cormac McKervey, Senior Agricultural Manager, Ulster Bank commented "once again we are delighted to sponsor the Allam's Premier Christmas Show. It is a highlight in our calendar and gives us a great opportunity to meet exhibitors and buyers at a very well organised and attended event. "
