The champion suckled calf at the Northern Ireland Charolais Club's show and sale at Enniskillen Mart on Tuesday evening was a 368kgs Charolais cross heifer but was not sold. It was exhibited by Tom Parke from Springfield.

The quality of calves impressed those attending considering the difficult weather conditions this year but some producers might have expected some higher prices for stock.

The top price of the sale was 1,070 for a 541kgs second prize heifer calf belonging to Noel Hunter and the third prize heifer award went to Chris Beattie for a 383kgs Charolais selling for 810.

The top price male calf was a 518kgs Charolais making 968 while the first prize rosette for male calves went to Alan Veitch for a 382kgs Charolais selling for 780.

The second prize male calf award went to Tom Parke for a 352kgs Charolais selling for 855.

The third prize male calf went to Martin Brennan for a 374kgs calf selling for 770.

The suckled calf sales continue next Tuesday evening when the Northern Ireland Limousin Club will be organising a show for Limousin cross calves.
