A Fermanagh pedigree breeder has been asked back to judge at the main autumn show at the Perth Bull Sales in Stirling, for the second year.

Harold Stubbs, from Crummy, Lisnaskea, believes he is the first judge to be asked to judge two different beef breeds in two years in succession.

Last autumn, Harold judged the Charolais section while another Fermanagh breeder, Robert Forde from Tempo, judged the Simmentals.

Next week, Harold will be judging the Simmental section, a breed he has been developing for many years.

"My first pedigrees were Simmental heifers I got from Co Welsh. He started me off." he explained.

He says he enjoyed the experience last year, judging the Charolais cattle, another breed which he keeps on his farm.

This year, Harold will have the task of judging 146 bulls which have been entered in the Simmental section along with some heifers.

Harold is no stranger to the Perth Bull Week, having attended the shows and sales there over the past 20 years. He has also had great success in the showring there, achieving 9,000gns for a bull at the Spring sales this year.

He says the Simmental breed, favoured for their good mothering instincts, are becoming more muscular and going in the direction which he thinks will keep the breed in the forefront in the future.

A number of bulls from local farms have been entered for next week's show and sale which begin this weekend.
