Members of Trillick and District Young Farmers’ Club have winning ways when it comes to writing, producing and staging their own play.

In fact, the club recently took the top honours in the Rosebowl, a competition open to all 10 Tyrone clubs.

And now the talented performers’ talents will be on show to an even greater audience thanks to an upcoming performance of their play at the YFCU stand at this year’s Balmoral Show.

Trillick and District YFC was formed in 1963 and it currently has 62 active members who take part in a wide range of competitions throughout the year. The Rosebowl competition challenges the participants to put on a production lasting around 20 minutes.

The competition took place in Newtownstewart’s 2000 Centre on Friday, April 24, 2015, and doubled as a judging platform for the nationwide one act drama competition.

Judges for the Rosebowl were Stuart Mills and Adam McMenemy (both members of Moneymore Young Farmers).

This year Derg Valley YFC, Cappagh YFC, Seskinore YFC and Trillick took part and Trillick’s play won the Ken Russell Rosebowl. The production was entitled “What Happened Barry” and was written and produced by club members, Mark Gibson and Bryan McKinley.

The basic gist of the play, described as a comedy musical, is about a prizewinning bird (Barry) being shot and centred on the investigation that followed. The cast consisted of 20 club members, ranging in ages from 13 to 24 years.

As well as winning the Rosebowl for best play, Club Leader Mark Gibson also won best actor on the night for his role as “Chase Ventura”.

And following on from their success, the club members are set to do a shortened version of their play at Balmoral.

Meanwhile, Trillick and District YFC will be hosting its annual wet knockout at Billy Funston’s farm on May 22.
