Mr. John Thomas Patterson, a much loved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the South West Acute Hospital, Enniskillen, on February 6, 2015. John was born on February 17, 1922 at Tullyhevin, Lisnaskea, to the late Mr. James Patterson and Mrs. Mary Jane Patterson. He was the eldest of five children, three of whom had predeceased him. His brother Jimmy passed away 26 years ago, his sister Mrs. Lettie Heaslip three years ago and his sister Mrs. Georgie Harris just three weeks ago. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. May Wilson, Maguiresbridge.

He met and married Louisa Ford (Lou) in 1958 at Maguiresbridge Methodist Church. They made their home at Tullynevin, Lisnaskea, where they both worked hard on the farm. They had two children, Joyce, married to Ian Bothwell, Ayr, Scotland, and Gordon, married to Jacqueline Curry, Tullynevin, Lisnaskea. Lou passed away on April 11, 2014 after a long illness.

John saw many changes in his lifetime and would often reminisce about the time he used horses on the farm before the advent of tractors.

As a young man he was a keen table tennis player, competing in leagues. He joined Lisnaskea Silver Band, in the footsteps of his dad, and the Lisnaskea L.O.L. Just last year he received his recognition of 70 years in the L.O.L.

He was a quiet, Christian man, who lived out his faith in his everyday life. He was a member of Lisnaskea Methodist Church where he attended regularly up to a few weeks before his death. He served on the Church Leaders’ Board for many years. As was evident as his funeral, he was highly respected by friends, neighbours and family.

John had a great love for the countryside, nature and birdlife. In later years he enjoyed time in the garden and keeping the farmyard neat and tidy. He enjoyed getting out and about and meeting folk for a chat.

John and Lou loved and cared for their six grandchildren, leaving a lasting impression on each of them. As they pursued careers throughout the world they kept regular contact with Granda and Granny.

John’s funeral service, a service of thanksgiving for his long life, was held at his home at Tullynevin, Lisnaskea, on Sunday, February 8, 2015. It was conducted by Mr. Ian Graham and the Rev. Colin Milligan. The hymns were Abide With Me, I Will Know Him and Will Your Anchor Hold.

John is survived by his daughter Joyce and husband Ian Bothwell, Ayr; son Gordon and wife Jacqueline, Tullynevin, Lisnaskea; his grandchildren Christopher and wife Simone, Ashley, Janice, Katherine and husband Graeme, Stephen, Hayley, Laura and great-grand-daughters Lea and Farrah.

The funeral arrangements were by S. R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen and Fivemiletown.
