Freddie Thompson, who died on January 31, after a short illness, was someone whose zest for life and sense of fun made a big impression on everyone he met.

A native of Kesh, Freddie was born on August 27, 1940, a son of the late Jack and the late Catherine Thompson. He was one of a family of six, the late Margaret, the late William, Charlie (who survives him), the late John, and Stewart (who survives him).

He was educated at Drumkeen School and left school at 14 to start work as a helper on a lorry in Kesh. It was here he developed his love for driving and lorries. He continued to drive right up to March 2015.

Freddie married the late Sadie (Sarah) Acheson from Lack, in January 1964 and they set up home in Lack. He had two daughters Andrena and Samantha and four grandchildren Hannah, Daniel, Jack and Luke. Sadly in October 2003 he lost his dear wife Sadie to cancer.

Freddie was a very outgoing man, a keen farmer who loved the outdoors and animals. Among his many interests were shooting and fishing. He enjoyed many trips with his friends and family on his beloved Lough Erne. He always loved reading history and recently took an interest in the famine in Ireland. He also was a fan of music and loved to listen to Country, traditional Irish music and Andre Rieu.

Freddie’s funeral took place on February 2, 2016 at Colaghty Parish Church. The large attendance reflected how loved and respected he was within the community. The service was conducted by the Rev. Eleanor Hayden. Burial was in Tierwhinney Methodist Churchyard.

Freddie is survived by his two children: Andrena, Samantha and son-in-law Paul. He also leaves his grandchildren, Hannah, Daniel, Jack and Luke. The funeral arrangements were by F.G. McFarland and sons, Funeral Directors, Kesh. Donations in lieu of flowers will be directed to Macmillan Cancer Support.
