A much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Coalter (Minnie) passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, in Ashbrooke Care Home.

Mae, who was affectionately known as Minnie, celebrated her 90th birthday in May. For the past 63 years, Mae resided at 94 Derrin Road, Enniskillen.

She was born Mae Elizabeth on May 1, 1926 at Drumaraght, Lisnaskea to Samuel and Emily McClelland. Mae was reared on a farm with her brothers Jim and Cecil and two sisters Kathleen and Dorothy. (Having been predeceased by her brothers, she is survived by her sisters).

Mae left school, aged 14, and went to work for her aunt, Mrs. Minnie O Malley, wife of T.A. O Malley who had a business on Main Street, Lisnaskea.

Mae met William James Coalter from Imeroo, Clabby and had a double wedding with her sister Dorothy on June 9, 1943. The wedding reception was held in the garden of the family farm.

Mae was a dutiful daughter who visited her mother every day to help with Cecil who was severely physically and mentally disabled and required a lot of care. Sadly Cecil died at the age of 27.

Her husband William was working on a new housing development in Cornagrade and they were delighted to be one of the first families to move into Derrin Road.

Mae stayed at home minding the children while William went to work in Taylor Woods; and then Fermanagh District Council. One of the highlights of Mae and William’s life together was their trips to Brisbane, Australia in 1988 and then again 1996 to visit their son Roy and family who had emigrated there in 1966.

Mae was her most happiest when she had all her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren visiting her. They affectionately called her Minnie and she took great interest in their wellbeing.

Sadly her loving husband William James died on September 25, 2010 from lung cancer. This affected Mae’s health, she had lost the love of her life as they were devoted to each other.

The funeral service was held in Aghavea Parish Church, followed by burial in the adjoining Churchyard. Tea was served in the hall afterwards.

Mae is survived by her sons Roy (Australia) Robert (Brookeborough) and daughters Dorothy (Antrim) Valerie (Lisnaskea) Kathleen (Ballinamallard) and Joyce (Omagh).

She also leaves her sisters in law Iris Byers (Fivemiletown) and Hazel Hopper (Clabby), and the wider family circle.

The funeral arrangements were by Austen Stinson, W.T. Morrison Funeral Directors, Enniskillen.
