The death occurred peacefully on October 18, 2016, at the Graan Nursing Home, Enniskillen, after an illness, of Mr. Robert George Stinson.
He was born on February 9, 1954, to Thomas and Margaret Stinson, Toneyloman, Bellanaleck. In 1964, the family moved to Mallard Heights, Bellanaleck.
Robert attended Jones Memorial Primary School and then Enniskillen High School. Leaving school at 15, Robert had several jobs, however it wasn’t until he got his Class 1 HGV at the age of 21 that his life took off.
He spent nearly 40 years on the road, living out of the cab of a lorry, delivering anything from Coca Cola loaded in Cork and delivered to Moscow to Irish beef loaded in Dublin, delivered to the Vatican in Rome.
He was also involved in the Romanian Aid convoys, delivering much needed food and clothing to orphan children.
Robert was a very caring person and made many friends on his travels. He was never happier than when he was dancing to his favourite Country bands.
After spending most of his later life in Liverpool, shortly after taking ill, Robert returned to Fermanagh, where he began his treatment, supported by his devoted partner Jenny.
In time, Robert moved to the Graan Nursing Home, where he spent his final months. Jenny and his family would like to express their sincere thanks for the care and attention given to Robert whilst there.
Robert is survived by his partner Jenny, his two daughters Amanda and Tracy, his son in law Thomas, and grandchildren Alfie, Scott and Leah. He leaves his sister Vera and his brother William, the wider family circle and his friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, and by his brother Maurice and his brother Ivan.
Robert’s funeral service was held in Cleenish Parish Church, Bellanaleck, conducted by the Rev. Canon Geoffrey Bridle. The hymns were: “Shall we Gather at the River” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. The service was followed by a private cremation and afterwards his ashes were scattered in Liverpool (his wishes) with the help of his lorry friends.
The funeral arrangements were by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
