The death has taken place of Mrs. Gladys Gray of 138 Makenny Road, Irvinestown. Gladys was born in Doogary in 1940, the sixth child of Richard and Isabella Cadden.
She was educated at Victoria Primary School and went back there immediately afterwards as one of the cooks.
This was a career she followed in Burfitt's Hill Primary School until her retirement, apart from a number of years off to care for her parents.
On September 7, 1968 she married Thomas Robert (Bertie) Gray. They made their home in Hudson Heights, before moving to Makenny in February 1982.
She was a lifelong member of the choir in Derryvullen North Parish Church, and also the Mothers' Union. In later years she and Bertie enjoyed playing bowls with Derryvullen North Bowling Club.
Gladys was a great home maker and enjoyed the company of friends and family.
Her thanksgiving service was very largely attended, and the Rev. West spoke movingly of her life, her faith and her fortitude when facing her last illness.
The hymns "Guide me, O thou great Jehovah", "Will your anchor hold in the storms of life" and "Nearer my God to thee" along with the 23rd Psalm were chosen by her.
Burial was in the adjoining churchyard.
She is immediately survived by her husband Bertie and her siblings.
Her brother Jimmy died on Wednesday December 2, 2009, four days after Gladys.
The funeral arrangements were by F.G. McFarland, Kesh.
