Much sadness has followed the peaceful death of Muriel Smith at her home 'The Nook', 3 Killyreagh Road, Tamlaght on October 10, 2009. She had been diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas in August 2009 and was cared for at home.
Muriel was the third child of a family of six to John and Annie Fawcett and was born into a farm at Baltragh, Lisnaskea, later moving to Clonmacfelimy.
After leaving school and alongside helping on the farm, Muriel worked at a variety of places including Taylor Woods in Enniskillen before her marriage to Austin on August 3, 1960.
Their first home was at Castlebalfour where their first child Iris was born and then Enniskillen where Shirley was born before settling in Tamlaght.
Muriel was very much a homely person and was a good cook and baker. She got a lot of pleasure from long walks with her dog Susie. For a long number of years she was a house to house collector for the Ulster Cancer Foundation.
In recent years her eyesight deteriorated and there was a general decline in health.
Her funeral service took place in the parish church of St. Tigernach, Derryvullen South and all was carried out according to Muriel's wishes.
The hymns were "Lead us Heavenly Father Lead Us", played also at her wedding; "The Lord's My Shepherd" and her favourite hymn "How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds". Her twin grandsons Andrew and Mark read the lessons.
Muriel is survived by her husband Austin; daughters Iris and Shirley; grandchildren Fiona, Andrew and Mark and her brother Ernest.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by W.T. Morrison, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
