The death occurred recently in the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen, of Patrick Farmer (Paddy), aged 82 years.
The eldest son of five children of Joseph and Elizabeth Farmer, Lesky, Boho, Paddy was predeceased by his brother Charlie on February 9, 2001.
Paddy was educated in the Public Elementary, Boho, and at 14-years-old, he had left school and worked the family farm and engaged in other available work.
He moved temporarily to Enniskillen where he lodged due to different shifts worked at Taylor Woods Factory, Derrychara.
After a number of years, Paddy took up employment as a lorry driver with Eamon Maguire, Derrygonnelly.
Paddy went on to drive diggers and served as a lorry driver for Raymond Dickson for 30 years.
He finally retired after a few years spent at Moffitt's, Belcoo; at this time he was 67-years-old.
Paddy continued to work on as a handyman, keeping the lawns and fufilling general work in the Lakeland Nursing Home, Bellanaleck.
He also proviced transport for clients and saw to various needs. As a consequence, he was well recognised and held in high regard by all who knew him.
Paddy married Eileen McBrien, from Sessiagh, Arney, in St. Mary's Church, Arney, in August 1954.
Fr. John P. Murphy, Fr. Thomas Gilroy, and Fr. John Donnelly were the celebrants at the wedding.
Both Paddy and Eileen worked diligently for the Graan, St. Michael's Church and the Comfort Fund until lately. They became well-known for selling the most tickets and helping in every way possible. Paddy's efforts were much appreciated by all who knew him.
Paddy pursued a number of interests and never tired of driving. He enjoyed football, card playing and country music.
Paddy and Eileen spent enjoyable holidays aboard, travelling to the United States. Their travels took them to London, Birmingham (a favourite destination), Blackpool and all over Ireland.
Paddy held a great faith and he attended Knock and Lough Derg every year, as well as the Novena of Hope at the Graan until lately.
Paddy's death took place on December 22, 2009. His funeral mass was led by Fr. Noel McGahan, Monsignor Sean Cahill, and Fr. Brian D'Arcy. Paddy's family was greatly comforted by the large attendance at the Mass at St. Michael's and St. Mary's, Arney, where Paddy was laid to rest.
Paddy is survived by his wife, Eileen, sons Martin and Gerard, daughters-in-law, Mary and Ann, grandchildren and his great grandchild, Enniskillen and Mullingar.
