Mr. William Robinson
Mr. William Robinson
Much sadness has been felt following the recent death of Willie Robinson, who passed away suddenly in the Erne Hospital on December 11, 2009.
Willie was born at the home farm at Makeny, Ballinamallard on August 26, 1934. He was the eldest of a family of two to John and Mary Robinson.
On leaving school, Willie joined his father on the family farm at Makeny where he also made his marital home.
On July 23, 1966 Willie married Nora Somerville, Drumbo, Irvinestown; they went on to have two children, Valerie and Mark, and found great joy in the arrival of their three grand-daughters.
Willie enjoyed working on his farm and being around farm machinery. He was known as someone who was always willing and helpful to his neighbours and friends, especially at busy times of the year.He had over 40 years of public service in both the Ulster Special Constabulary and RUC part-time reserve, working in Irvinestown and Ballinamallard. He enjoyed the camaraderie and met a wide circle of friends during his years in the RUC.
On retiring from the Reserves, he became a member of the RUC Welfare Association and the USC Association, being also a member of Irvinestown Royal British Legion and of local Orange and Black lodges.
Willie was also a keen member of the North Fermanagh Vintage Tractor Society. He thoroughly enjoyed taking part in their charity tractor runs on his red Massey Ferguson tractor.
His funeral service took place in Magheracross Parish Church. The huge attendance reflected his many interests and the high regard felt for him. The service was conducted by the Rev. Chris Matchett, assisted by the Rev. Charlie Eames. The hymns were "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". His nephew Malcom Hurst read the lesson.
Willie is survived by his wife Nora, daughter Valerie and son-in-law Stephen, grand-daughters Gemma, Ashleigh and Alex, son Mark and daughter-in-law Cheryl. He also leaves a sister Sidney.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
