Mr. Albert Collum

Much sadness has been felt following the recent death of Albert Collum who passed away peacefully in the Erne Hospital on January 12, 2010.

Albert was born on February 28, 1922. He was the second youngest child of the late Hugh and Sarah Collum of Rosmacawhinney, Florencecourt. He attended Lisblake School and on completing his education, went to work for the Ulster Transport Authority where he remained for 30 years.

His next employment was with the Post Office, both working in the sorting office in Enniskillen, and on deliveries around the rural community which he particularly enjoyed. On retirement he continued to keep active by taking a part-time job delivering for the Lakeland Bakery and then in later years keeping lawns for himself and neighbours.

On August 24, 1954, Albert married Lily Little of Mullnaveigh, Florencecourt. Over the years they found joy on the arrival of four daughters, 10 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He was never happier than when surrounded by family and thoroughly enjoyed his last birthday celebration with the wide family circle. Over the years he enjoyed family holidays in the Yorkshire Dales, Dorset and Hitchin and he particularly loved spending time with his grandchildren who adored their patient, caring grandad.

Albert held a great faith, was a member of Letterbreen Methodist Church for many years and a regular attendee at the Bible study meetings. The fellowship he received there was of great importance in his life.

The funeral was at Letterbreen Church on January 14, 2010. There was a large attendance at the service of thanksgiving conducted by Rev. Brett Barnhill. The burial took place at the family plot in St. John's Parish Churchyard, Florencecourt.

Albert is survived by his wife Lily, children Daphne, Denise, Esther and Fiona, sons-in-law Steve, Patrick and Leslie, grandchildren Zoe, Christopher, Charlene, Aimie, Aisling, Liam, Niamh, Kyle, Stewart and Chloe, and great granddaughter Sapphire.

The funeral arrangements were carried out very ably by W.T. Morrison.
