The death has taken place recently of Mrs. Bridget (Bea) Jones who passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1 at the Graan Abbey Nursing Home. Bea was born in Doagh, Derrygonnelly, the second eldest in a family of five to Patrick and Catherine McGovern. Her mother Catherine died when Bea was 19 and Bea assumed the role of a mother to her siblings, a job she did with kindness, love and dedication.

Bea married her husband Dick Jones in 1957 and they set up home in Drumbeggar, Derrygonnelly, where their seven children were born. In 1975 the family moved to Tullycreevy, Monea, and it was from here that they retired back to Drumbeggar in late 1989, prior to Bea entering the Graan Abbey Nursing Home in February 2009.

Bea was a very kind, caring, gentle, compassionate and honest person to all who crossed her path. She never forgot her family's or grandchildren's special occasions and the kettle was always on the boil for a cup of tea and a slice of fadge for everyone who called. She had a wonderful way with words and whenever someone had a trial or tribulation in life, out came the notepad and sympathy, sorrow and genuine concern were expressed in three or four pages and posted on to let the person know she cared. Bea was a strict pioneer throughout her life but was a very sociable woman who in latter years spent her spare time playing bridge and attending all local whist drives and senior citizen outings.

Bea was a devoted Christian and a very spiritual woman who never missed Mass or the Sacraments when her health permitted it. She was a firm believer in the daily recital of the Most Holy Rosary and always led by good example throughout her life.

Bea is survived by her husband Dick; sons Richard (Mary), Eamon (Ellen), Liam (Amy), Eugene (Mary); daughters Ann (Joe), Mary (John), Patricia (Gerry) and 28 grandchildren; brother Sean and sisters Pat and Jean. She was predeceased by her brother Sonny and nephew Bernie.

Bea's Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Derrygonnelly by Rev. Fr. Lorcan Lynch; he was assisted by Rev. Fr. McGourty, Irvinestown; Rev. Fr. McKenna, Trillick and Rev. Fr. McGahan, Enniskillen.

The funeral arrangements were by Bea's nephew Damian McGovern and her Month's Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Derrygonnelly on Sunday, June 6, at 11.30 a.m.
