There has been widespread shock and disbelief at the tragic death of Stuart Irwin on Sunday May 23, 2010.
Stuart was born on February 7, 1991 and was the youngest of three children born to Albert and Majorie Irwin, Piperhill, Newtownbutler.
He received his early education at Newtownbutler Primary School and his secondary education at Lisnaskea High School. Stuart developed a strong interest in mechanical work and therefore continued his further education from 2007 until his untimely death, at the South West College Skills Centre in Enniskillen, which he attended one day a week. He was due to sit his final exam on the day after his funeral took place.
During his time at the South West College Skills Centre, Stuart was employed at Rice Motors, Lisnaskea where he worked as an apprentice mechanic; Stuart excelled in his work and he enjoyed it immensely. Prior to working in Rice Motors, he worked in Auto Electrics, Lisnaskea for three months back in 2007.
Although mechanical work was Stuart's main interest, he also enjoyed working hard on the family farm, with his dad and his brother Colin.
Stuart was also very interested in shooting wild game and clay pigeons. He had recently bought a gun dog which he called Jack and he took great joy in training him,
Another of Stuart's main loves was music. He was a member of Rosslea Accordion Band (Mullycavan) for approximately the last six years. He was also a member of Newtownbutler Border Defenders Flute Band since joining last year.
Stuart was incredibly helpful, loving and kind. He always saw the best in everyone and had a fantastic sense of humour. He was a typical young man who enjoyed socialising and was full of energy. He lived his short life to the full and was instantly loved by everyone who met him, he was everyone's friend. Stuart is, and will always be loved and missed by his devastated family; his father Albert, mother Majorie, sister Jill, brother Colin and brother-in-law, Lionel along with his granny, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A huge gathering attended his funeral which took place on Wednesday May 26, 2010 in St. Tiernach's Parish Church, Clones, Co. Monaghan. His funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Helene T. Steed and assisted by the Rev. D. Skuce. The hymns included "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", "Nearer my God to Thee" and "There is a Happy Land". Interment took place in the Church of Ireland Graveyard, Scotshouse Road, Clones.
