The death has taken place at the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen on July 12, 2010 of Mrs. Beatrice Aitken, late of Valley Road, Killadeas, aged 92 years. The highly regarded figure led an active lifestyle prior to her sudden passing, which occurred peacefully.

Beatrice was born in Henry Street, Enniskillen, a daughter of Sarah and Richard Irvine. She was educated at the Model School and among her early interests were cycling and tennis.

In 1940, she married Arthur Fraser Aitken, a Sergeant with the North Irish Horse who came to Northern Ireland to train new members for the Tank Corps.

Owing to her husband being in the services, Beatrice travelled worldwide with her family of four: Marjorie, Clarice, Iain and Alistair.

Finally, the Aitkens settled in Belfast, before retiring in Beatrice's home county of Fermanagh in the late 1980s.

In her retirement years, she was an active member of Age Concern and she enjoyed her membership of Trory and Killadeas Parishes' Tuesday Club and the Royal British Legion, Enniskillen. She was also a long time member of the Mothers' Union, Trory and Killadeas.

A very outgoing figure, she will be remembered for her sparkling personality. She was always ready to help people out both with words and deeds, action and advice.

Her funeral service in the Priory Church, Killadeas, was led by the Rev. Mark Watson and the hymns were 'Abide with Me' and 'The Day Thou Gavest Lord has Ended'.

Burial was in the adjoining churchyard.

Beatrice is survived by her four children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren worldwide. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Fraser Aitken.

The funeral arrangements were by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
