Michael Murray, Hunter's Moon, Enniskillen (formerly Menapian Way, Enniskillen) passed away peacefully at the Millcroft Nursing Home, Enniskillen on July 5, 2010. Born on May 10, 1916 to Patrick and Bridget Murray, who farmed in Derryard, Rosslea, and later Drummerwinter, Rosslea, Michael was one of eleven children.

He emigrated in his teens to Scotland, and moved later to England, where he worked as a manual labourer and learned the building trade.

In 1941 he returned to Ireland and eventually set up business in Dublin as a self-employed builder. He married Carmel Kane of Blackrock, Dublin, in 1950 and had seven children, living across Ireland, England and the USA.

He was a man who worked hard in his youth to build up a successful business and provide for his family, and who worked equally hard in later years at enjoying his retirement, which, he admitted himself turned out longer than he had anticipated.

In 1979, at the age of 63, he retired to Enniskillen and spent the following 20 years actively indulging his two hobbies of travel and golf, and often combining both. He was a member of Enniskillen Golf Club. He continued travelling up to his eighties, often setting off on his own to explore far flung places. He was a great believer in education - at any age - and took up learning Spanish when he was in his seventies.

Despite his wanderlust, he always maintained his attachment to his hometown of Drummerwinter and Rosslea village. He subscribed to the Rosslea Historical Society, and his account of life in and around Rosslea in the 1920s, dictated when he was in his eighties, was published in the journal of the society. He was a great character, and enjoyed life to the full.

He is survived by his wife Carmel, children Eamon, Joan, Angela, Deirdre, Padraig, Roisin and Sinead, his five grandchildren, and by his sisters Theresa Carroll, Agnes Carey and Lil Manley.

Michael's funeral took place on July 8, 2010 at St. Michael's Church, Enniskillen and burial was in St. Tierney's, Rosslea.
