Miss Lucy Rowe passed away in the Erne Hospital on Wednesday, July 28 after a short illness. She enjoyed good health and had been mentally and physically active up to a week before her death at 102.
Lucy was born on February 17, 1908 at Lakeview House, Letter to the late Sam and Harriett Rowe, being the second youngest of a family of six.
She was educated at Rossharbour Primary School and left at 15 to work in her father’s General Merchants where she worked for 50 years with her brother Fred. Lucy was a hard worker and was known for her honesty and desire to serve the community.
In the mid 70’s she came to live in Kesh where she remained until her death.
Being a life-long Methodist, Lucy attended Tullycherry and later Pettigo Methodist Church. She was a life-long member of the MWI, being its longest serving member in the District.
She was a keen gardener and knitted blankets which she sent to the African Missions.
Lucy never married but had a great interest in her wide family circle of nephews and nieces at home and abroad. Her door was always open and she had a wide circle of friends who called to see her.
Being a very devout Christian she was disciplined in her Bible reading and prayer life and was always interested in her Church.
The Service of Thanksgiving was held in Pettigo Methodist Church on August 31, 2010. The Rev. Eleanor Hayden conducted the service.
Prayers were led by the Rev. Ken Lindsay and the Rev. Richard Rowe (nephew) read the lesson.
Miss Lucy Rowe was laid to rest in Muckross Graveyard. The Methodist Ladies provided tea in the Church Hall afterwards. The funeral arrangements were by George McFarland, Ederney.
