Mrs Mabel Connor

The death has taken place at the Erne Hospital, Enniskillen on June 22, 2010 of Mrs. Mabel Connor, late of Levally, Enniskillen, aged 91.Born on December 13, 1918 to Johnny and Rebecca Connor of Drumberney, Enniskillen, the neighbouring townland, she was one of seven children. She was educated at Moyglass School and left at a young age to help on the farm and with household duties.

She married Bob Connor in 1953 and moved one mile up the road to the farm at Levally, where she lived for the rest of her life. Over the years she was an active member of Devenish Parish Church, Monea, and a long-time member of the Mothers’ Union there. Along with Bob, she enjoyed indoor bowling at Devenish and Springfield Bowling Clubs, always looking forward to tournaments and competitions.

Always welcoming to all who called at the house, one could be assured of a cup of tea and a slice of her homemade apple tart. Mabel never felt the need to travel too far from Enniskillen, but enjoyed travelling around the country roads on her Honda 50 and by car. Her life revolved around her husband, Bob, and her two sons, Albert and Derek, and later by her seven grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Albert and his wife Wilma and their children, Joanne, Richard, Jill and Debbie, and by her son Derek and his wife, Olive and by their children, Stephanie, Angela and Robert. She is also survived by her two sisters Edna and Irene in England. She was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2002 and by her grand-daughter Amy in 1990. She was also predeceased by her four brothers, Charlie, George, Alfie and Billy.

Mabel’s funeral took place in Devenish Parish Church, where she was buried in the adjoining graveyard, with the service conducted by the Rev. Anita Kerr. Funeral arrangements were by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
