The death has taken place of a former farmer from Fermanagh who retired to live in Co. Antrim.

John McCoy who was 84 had farmed near Maguiresbridge for many years until he and his wife, Ivy moved to Nutt's Corner.

One of the mourners at the funeral service was one of the evacuees who, during World War II, was accommodated on the family farm in Maguiresbridge, where John grew up. The schoolboy who was taken to the Co. Fermanagh farm from his home in Belfast in the turbulent 1940s when the province was under attack, is retired Billy Clarke who now lives in South Antrim. He was one of the children taken in for safe keeping by John's parents, John senior and Margaret during the blackout years of the Blitz. Billy used to reminisce about his childhood during visits to the McCoy home at Maguiresbridge.

Mr. McCoy's wife, Ivy, a Queen's University graduate who taught chemistry in Enniskillen Collegiate Grammar School for 38 years and John met at a Christmas party in her aunt, Margaret Graham's home in Brookeborough and they were married in Lisbellaw Parish Church.

John who moved with Ivy to Carmavy Road, Nutt's Corner, eight years ago when the farm was sold, is survived by his wife and his married daughter, Carolyn, her husband John Reynolds and their children, Christopher 21 and Amy 19. John and Ivy's son, Gordon died seven years ago aged 35.

John McCoy, who was involved in community life was Worshipful Master of LOL No. 450 and was also a senior member of RBP 1018.

The funeral service at Carmavy Road was conducted by the Rev. William Orr, rector of St Catherine's Parish Church, Aldergrove and Canon Sam McComb and later in Maguiresbridge Parish Church by Canon David Skuce. Mr. McCoy was buried in the family plot at Maguiresbridge.
