Mrs. Eva Mary (Minnie) Woods
A much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Eva Mary Woods, affectionately known as Minnie passed away peacefully at Coolaness Nursing Home, Irvinestown, on December 9, 2011.
Minnie, formerly Barton, wife of the late John James (Johnny) Woods, was born in 1923 at Meenaheery, Lack, one in a family of six. The last of her generation of the family, she was predeceased by her brothers and sister, Ollie, Andy, Willie, Joe and Violet.
Her father died when the family were young, and Minnie, who attended school locally, helped out on the home farm.
In 1946, she married Johnny Woods and they made their home at Meenmossa, Drumquin, where they had a family of four - Olive, Alan and Florence and the late Victor. When the family were young, they moved to Irvinestown, where they set up home at Glassmullagh and farmed there. Minnie was dedicated to her home and family, her main focuses in life. Following the death of her husband in 1993, Minnie moved to Dromore Road, Irvinestown.
In later years, after her children were raised, Minnie worked in the kitchen at Irvinestown Controlled Primary School and in the Co-op shop in Irvinestown.
Among her main interests were knitting and she was a great Aran knitter. She had also been a great baker. A woman with a very generous nature, she loved having people calling to visit at her house, where a warm welcome was always extended to all.
Her latter years were spent at Coolaness Nursing Home, Irvinestown where she moved owing to failing health.
Her funeral service was held at Derryvullen North Parish Church, Irvinestown, led by the Rev. Glenn West. The hymns were Safe in the Arms of Jesus, which was Minnie's favourite hymn; Nearer My Good to Thee; and God be With you 'til we meet again. Burial was at Townhill Churchyard.
Minnie is survived by her son Alan, daughters Olive and Florence and son-in-law Perry; three grandchildren, Fiona, Alistair and Gemma; two great grandchildren, Erne and Jake, and the wider family circle.
She was predeceased by her husband, John James (Johnny) and by her son Victor and his wife, Sylvia.
The funeral arrangements were by S.R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen and Fivemiletown. Donations in lieu, if desired, are being directed to Derryvullen North Parish Church, c/o the funeral directors, S.R. Elliott.
