Mrs. Mabel Donaldson
The death of Mabel Donaldson (nee McBrien), of 1 Erne Terrace, Derrygonnelly, occurred on November 23 in the Erne Hospital.
Mabel was born in Church Hill on June 12 1921, the eldest of a family of four. Her two brothers Archie and Mervyn and sister Muriel predeceased her.
She married Norman in 1942 and they made their home in Manchester for 17 years.
During that time seven of their eight children were born. When they returned to Ireland they lived at Church Hill and settled at Derrygonnelly.
Mabel took an interest in her local church, Church Hill Methodist where she was a member of the MWI, the Friendship Club and was a faithful attender at Sunday worship.
She was also a member of Inishmacsaint M.U., the Women's Institute and enjoyed supporting all events in the community.
She was caretaker of the local primary school for a number of years as well as 'dinner lady,' a job she enjoyed very much. However her main interests and passion were her family. She had 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Two years ago she sustained a fall which resulted in a broken hip and arm and her health began to decline. Family and friends made sure she was able to get out and about as much as possible and she was able to live in her home right to the end.
Although she had reached 90 her death was unexpected. Her hospital stay was brief and the family are grateful that she passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Mabel is survived by her four sons, Brian, Robert, Stephen and Jeffrey and her four daughters, Sylvia, Heather, Carole and Denise.
The funeral service at Church Hill Methodist Church was led by Mr. Gareth Hayden and the organist was Mrs. Charlotte Gordon.
The funeral arrangement were by W.T. Morrison, Enniskillen.
