A much loved brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, Mr. Albert Brady, passed away peacefully at the South West Acute Hospital on June 24, 2012 following years of declining health.

Born on March 7, 1929, the eldest son of William and Elizabeth Brady, Albert spent all his life at the Curragh on the family farm where, in partnership with his brother Charlie, he worked hard to develop and expand their property and livestock over the years.

Albert was a shrewd and progressive farmer, who loved the countryside. His particular interest on the farm was his dairy herd which he built up over many years and is now being carried on by his grand nephew, Christopher, something which pleased Albert greatly. In 1978 Albert and Charlie were joined on the farm by Charlie's son, Allan, and together they worked happily and harmoniously for many years until, following heart surgery in 1997, Albert developed epilepsy which was to have a devastating effect on the rest of his life preventing him from carrying out his duties on the farm and generally curtailing his pleasure in life. Albert was a kind and helpful neighbour, always willing to share his knowledge of farming matters and was an excellent judge of cattle. He had a great interest in wildlife and enjoyed identifying the many species which congregated on the shores of Lough MacNean where he lived.

Albert loved his Church, where he sang in the choir for over 50 years, and attended faithfully while his health allowed. He was also a lifelong member of both Florencecourt Flute Band and Killesher LOL 835. Albert was a founder member of Florencecourt Bowling Club and also enjoyed Tuesdays at the Hot Potato Club; sadly declining health prevented him from attending either of these groups in the last number of years. In his younger days he was part of the Killesher Farmers Union Quiz team which competed annually for the Northern Ireland Cup.

Albert never married but was a loving uncle to his nephews and nieces and they in turn adored him. To all of them the Curragh was a second home where they spent many happy times with Albert and his brother Tom regularly staying for weekends and summer holidays.

Albert was lovingly cared for at home by his family, mainly by his brother Tom, with whom he shared his home, and helped in recent years by his sister Sylvia and nephew Allan.

A service of thanksgiving for his life was held on Tuesday, June 26 in St. John's Parish Church, Florencecourt conducted by the Rev Ivan Ruiters. The hymns were shall we Gather at the River, What a Friend we have in Jesus and When the Roll is called up Yonder. Readings were by Mrs. Margaret Brady and Mrs. Jenny York. The organist was Mr. Robert Wilson, an old friend of the family.

Albert is survived by his brother Charlie and wife Irene; brother Tom; sister Iris (and husband George) and sister Sylvia (and husband Alex). He leaves a number of nieces and nephews and the wider family circle.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. Austen Stinson (W.T. Morrison) and donations in lieu of flowers is to be given to the Epilepsy Society.
