Miss Lilia Walsh, of Culkey, passed away peacefully at SWAH on February 16. Lilia, who was in her 91st year, was the only child of Thomas and Mina Walsh.

Born on April 24, 1924, life and times in the 20s and 30s were difficult and challenging. Living opposite the original Jones Memorial School, Lilia obtained her education there until the age of 14. After school she assisted her father and mother in running their little country shop and photography business. The shop was well located being opposite to the large Lisgoole Abbey estate of some 400 acres. The estate was then highly labour intensive, requiring gardeners, labourers and managers. Thus the families on the estate comprised a good hinterland of customers for the country shop.

The passing of the years brought changes - during the Second World War part of the Lisgoole estate became a military camp, first for English regiments and then for the American regiments.

Lilia lived very simply, her comforts in life centred on her dog, her cats, her birds, her flowers and reading.

Lilia was full of gratitude and praise for the medical staff at SWAH and also for those who called to visit her, especially the Rev. Canon Skuce and Mrs. Mabel Greaves.

Her funeral service was held in Rossorry Parish Church and was conducted by the Rev. Canon Skuce, assisted by Mr. Jim Kerr. The funeral arrangements were by S. R. Elliott and Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
