THE body of an 81-year-old Fermanagh man was found yesterday near Swanlinbar in County Cavan.
He was John Joe Maguire, a well-known and popular musician from Drumroosk in Kinawley.
Mr. Maguire had been missing since Monday morning but was found dead yesterday afternoon.
Independent Councillor Bernice Swift, a lifelong friend, was "heartbroken" to hear the news.
"I am deeply saddened at the death of my good friend John Joe, a fabulous character who surely broke a mould, and who willingly played at all my Fírinne events, in memory of his own friends. I have very fond memories of the wonderful 'Ceol Agus Craic' with John Joe, one of Ireland's greatest musicians. He will be truly missed by me and everyone who knew him. May he rest in peace," she said.
One of Mr. Maguire's neighbours, Robin Martin said his death has come as a "huge shock" to the community.
"I knew him a lifetime and he was a decent and hard-working man. This is deeply sad. Our hearts go out to his family," he said.
Police say a post-mortem will now be carried out to determine what caused Mr. Maguire's death.
