Highest price bull at Charolais Spring show bred by local exhibitor

Reserve Junior Champion at Northern Ireland Charolais Club Spring show and Sale in Dungannon was Drummeer Donald, son of Burradon Talisman, owned by Edwin Morrison of Maguiresbridge and sold for 7800gns to Noel McElwaine Newtownstewart.

A Fermanagh bred bull was sold for the top price at last week's Northern Ireland Charolais Club's Spring show and sale in Dungannon.

The leading price of 7,800gns was paid for 17-month-old Drumeer Donald, bred and exhibited by Edwin Morrison from Maguiresbridge. He had been awarded reserve junior champion by judge, Cyril Millar from Coleraine. The bull is a Burradon Talisman son out of a homebred cow by Doonally New. He was knocked down to Noel McIlwaine from Plumbridge.

There was a 90% clearance and a breed centre record of 57 entries selling to average £2,962.

Two entries shared a 5,000gns price tag. First to go was the intermediate and overall reserve supreme champion, Brogher Dandy from Trevor Phair, Enniskillen to S Taylor, Ligoniel, Belfast. This 18-month-old was by Sang-d'Or and out of a homebred cow going back to Oldstone Egbert.

The junior and overall supreme champion was Drumfin Dynamite, bred and exhibited by Basil Buchanan of Hillsborough. He was sold to M. and S. Maguire of Maguiresbridge for 4,700gns.

First class prize winner, Killadeas Darius made 4,100gns to Colin Montgomery, Killough, Downpatrick. Bred and exhibited by father and son team, David and Stuart Bothwell, Ballinamallard, Darius was by Dunlon Ulick and out of Brampton Embark sired cow. Three more Dunlon Ulick sons were in the money for the Bothwells. Killadeas Dermot, a rising two-year-old made 4,000gns to James Buchanan, while two 20-month-olds each commanded 3,000gns - Killadeas Depart went to G Thompson, Kesh, and Killadeas Dean sold to K Dickson, Downpatrick.

Mullaghbane Elvis, a 13-month-old youngster secured the day's second 4,000gns bid from H Marquess, Muckamore, Antrim. This first class prize winner bred and exhibited by Fred Elliott, Florencecourt was by Mullaghbane Carlos and out of a homebred bred by Doonally Nicefor.

Other entries in the money included Stranagone Dick, a 17-month-old Oldstone Egbert son and out of a Kye bred dam from R McWilliams, Swatragh, Derry for 3,300gns to Messrs Thompson, Tempo.

In the female section, two lots were bid to 3,000gns each. First to go was the reserve female champion, Drumlone Dixie, another 21-month-old, this time by the 14,000gns Goldies Usher from Kenny Veitch Lisbellaw to Sydney Rea, Ballyclare. The second 3,000gns lot was Basil Buchanan's Drumfin Delilah, an 18-month-old heifer by Dovea Gin Tonic to John McKeever, Kilmore, Armagh. At 2,500gns Kenny Veitch sold Drumlone Candy, a 17-month-old by Harestone Tadorne and out of a homebred dam by Brigadoon Ulsterman.
