There was delight for William and James Crawford from Brookeborough who won the all-Ireland Dairy championship at the Fermanagh County Show yesterday (Wednesday).

John Cousar, from Kilmarnock, Scotland, who was judging, said: "The cow is in form today. It is the most balanced cow in the field," he said of the winning Crawford cow.

Mr James Crawford was delighted at the win. "We are pleased to win. It is a home-bred cow. The judge commended it saying it was a better class of dairy cow than was at the Highland Show in Scotland," he said.

Mr. Cousar was warm in his praise for the standard of cattle on show. "The standard was high. It is one of the best quality shows I have judged for a while," he said. Mr. Cousar has judged the Royal Highland Show and travelled to Sweden, Poland and indeed all over Europe in his role as judge.

It was an excellent show with good crowds and a fine entry of livestock. Mr Brian Grant, a judge from Inverness had also commented that it was a wonderful show of Simmental cattle at Enniskillen.

Mr. Pat Kelly, from Tempo, Northern Ireland Chairman of the Simmental Club won the Northern Bank Simmental Female of the Year. While Clive Hoey from Fivemiletown enjoyed a clean sweep in the commercial beef section. His heifer was overall supreme commercial beef champion and Law Brothers from Kesh won the Reserve.

As the Northern Ireland Hereford Show was taking place at Enniskillen, the high standard of entries would have exceeded everything else showing in the Beef section. William and James McMordie from Ballygowan enjoyed success in both the Male and Female Championships.

Ivomec Super Simmental Pair of the Year was won by David and Julie Hazleton, Dungannon and Reserve was won by William and Margaret Nelson of Rosslea.
