Lough Erne bathed in sunlight became the stunning backdrop for filming by Sir Terry Wogan in the county last month.

In spite of it being the dullest July on record, the famous broadcaster was greeted with sunshine when he paid a two day visit to the county to film for a forthcoming two-part series expected to be called Wogan's Return.

He was in Fermanagh to interview Father Brian D'Arcy, a friend with whom he had broadcast for over 20 years on his Radio Two morning programme.

Father Brian explained: "Terry is doing a series of two programmes of one hour each where he re-visits parts of Ireland that he knew. He spent four weeks in Ireland, visiting places like Killarney and of course, Limerick. He also spent a week in the north interviewing Gerry Anderson in Derry and myself in Fermanagh. He spent last week down the east coast interviewing Gay Byrne.

"He was interviewing me about Fermanagh and Lough Erne and growing up and looking at religion and spirituality in Ireland".

Father Brian broadcast his 'Pause for Thought' slot on the highly popular 'Wake up to Wogan' radio programme.

"We brought him down Lough Erne on a boat and went onto Joey Kelly's Inishdoney Island and across to Inishclare. He saw Lough Erne at its best. It was absolutely beautiful. Pat Lunny organised everything for the lough. They asked me who the best man is for the job and the best man did it.

"We also came to the Graan to see where I worked and the background to that and what happens at the Graan. They also took some shots up the forest drive from Derrygonnelly. It was a beautiful day. He stayed at the Westville Hotel and was highly appreciative of it and enjoyed a meal at MacNean Bistro," added Father Brian.

The programme is being made for BBC Wales by an independent production company. It is expected to be broadcast early next year. "It will be a very good plug for Fermanagh. Terry Wogan absolutely loved the place. While he might have driven through Fermanagh before, he did not know it and did not know it had such a vast waterway," said Father Brian.
