Border sheepdog trials attract entries from around Ireland

Another successful Sheepdog Trials event was held at Belcoo on Saturday in what has now become an annual event. The trials were held on the scenic location of the Cottage Meadow within the village and the organisers were fortunate that the weather was fine throughout the day.

Sponsorship for the event was provided by Belcoo Pharmacy, Custom House Restaurant, Belcoo; Hotel Carlton Belleek, Warren Kerr ,Mullaghmeen; Phelim McCorry, Teemore; Home Field & Stream, Enniskillen; Corby Rock Feeds and Carty Hardware, Belleek.

Thanks were also expressed to Spectrum Signs Athlone, Sean Timoney & Sons, Ardess Community Association, Eric Lindsay and Son, Florencecourt; Francis McGourty, Belcoo and the Lyttle family, Pettigo for all their help.

The trial was judged by Tony Kearns from Sligo, the course was set up by Pat Boylan, John Dolan, Jim Jones and Niall Maguire with the fencing provided by Martin Higgins. Assistance in handling the sheep was provided by young Chloe Dolan-Murphy ably assisted by her three young friends. The organisers said they were grateful to all competitors for taking part and to the spectators for their enthusiastic support.

The results of the trial are as follows:

Open Competition -1, John Maginn, Castlewellan with Moss on 92 points (Patsy Magee Memorial Cup); 2, Alastair Lyttle, Pettigo with Spot on 90 points; 3, John Maginn, Castlewellan with Sweep on 83 points; 4, Alastair Lyttle Pettigo with Bill on 78 points; 5, Billy Watt, Omagh with Moy on 77 points; 6, David Lyttle, Pettigo with Cap on 76 points.

Intermediate Competition - 1, Raymond Kee, Donegal with Dan on 68 points; 2, Joe Gallagher, Donegal with Meg on 66 points; 3, Charlie Gallagher, Donegal with Jim on 60 points; 4, David Little, Pettigo with Jack on 52 points.
