The death has taken place in Belfast City Hospital on July 17, 2010, of Mrs. Mena Robinson, late of Main Street, Magheraveely, aged 84 years.

Mena was the youngest of six children born to the late Samuel and Martha Hutchinson, Drumliff, Redhills, Co. Cavan, and was the last remaining member of her family.

After leaving school she took up office work in Black’s of Cavan, and later in a business in Wicklow.

In 1951 she married Edward Robinson and they set up home at Clonfeile, Magheraveely, where they raised a family of two sons and two daughters. As a devoted wife and mother she dedicated her life to raising her family and helping on the farm.

Sadly after 17 years of marriage, Edward died suddenly and she was left with a young family and a farm to run.

At this time her brother Sammie came to help her in 1968 and remained with her until his death in 2002.

Mena had many hobbies and interests. She was a very keen gardener, enjoyed baking and jam making, and was very good at knitting, crochet and dressmaking. She delighted in giving handmade gifts to her grandchildren. She derived great enjoyment from her grandchildren and was delighted at the birth of her great-grandson in October last year. She looked forward to their visits, listening to their achievements through school and at work and hearing stories of their holidays and travels.

Mena was also involved in many organisations. A member of Aghadrumsee Parish Church, she belonged to their Ladies’ Guild. She was an active member of Magheraveely Sunshine Club and attended Lisnaskea Arthritis Care.

The service of thanksgiving was held in Aghadrumsee Parish Church on July 19, 2010. Canon Riddel officiated at the service and the address was given by lay preacher Walter Pringle, who Mena considered a personal friend. Tributes were read by her daughter-in-law Caroline and grand-daughter Wendy. The hymns were “Safe in the Arms of Jesus,” “There is a Happy Land” and “When the Roll is called up Yonder.” Burial was in the adjoining churchyard. The Ladies’ Guild provided tea in the hall afterwards.

Mena is survived by her two sons, Mervyn and Eric, two daughters Hazel and Heather, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The funeral arrangements were by F. Dowler Ltd., Lisnaskea.
