There was widespread sadness this week at the passing of a very well-known and popular Enniskillen man, Paul Keaveney.
Affectionately known as “wee Paul” by many, he died at home in Corban Avenue on Tuesday night after fighting a brave battle with illness.
Paul will be particularly remembered by the football community throughout the Fermanagh and Western for his magnificent contribution to the sport over many years.
His early playing days were spent with Enniskillen Corinthians and as a superb left back he was a member of the great team which won the double in 1970-71. He later went on to have a long association with Enniskillen Town United.
Long after his playing days ended, he gave of his time selflessly to many teams by training and coaching them, including senior but particularly youth.
Many young players over the years benefitted from Paul’s advice and dedication.
Away from football, he was a deeply religious man, worshipping regularly but also demonstrating a practical Christian faith by being generous to others.
He had a long career with the DoE, but retired some years ago to care for his elderly mother before she deceased.
After his retirement, he took a much deserved trip abroad, including a memorable visit to the Vatican.
Paul’s remains will leave his home at Kilmacormick at 10.15 this morning to go to St. Michael’s church for Requiem Mass, followed by burial at Breandrum Cemetery.
