THE new (and yet not so new) Chief Executive of Fermanagh District Council, was announced at the monthly meeting in Townhall on Monday amidst rapturous applause.
Brendan Hegarty is already well acquainted with the roles and responsibilities of the Head of the Council job.
He has filled the top position, firstly as Acting Chief Executive before subsequently assuming the role last May, since the former Chief Executive, Rodney Connor, retired.
But in order to keep things ‘above board’, Fermanagh District Council advertised the post through the Local Government Staff Commission for Northern Ireland at the end of December.
Applications for the post closed on January 5, after which assessments and interviews were carried out.
Mr. Hegarty was selected for the £76,452 salary post with increments on January 28, officially assuming the position on February 1.
He was formerly the Director for Finance and IT at Fermanagh District Council.
Whilst most of the work carried out by the Finance Department is presently overseen by Catherine Leonard, it is expected that a restructuring of the Council’s senior management team will take place in the near future as present staffing arrangements have been deemed unsustainable or sufficient with a number of unfilled vacancies.
During the monthly council meeting, chairman, Stephen Huggett, congratulated Mr. Hegarty on his official position.
“I hope this will be all that will be said on the matter. Mr. Brendan Hegarty has accepted the post of Chief Executive, effective from February 1, 2011. We wish him well in the post and I’m sure you will all congratulate him.”
