Six time major winner, Sir Nick Faldo has described the decision to place the Lough Erne Resort in administration as "harsh". He described how Jim Treacy has put his "heart and soul" into the venture at Lough Erne and of his hopes that one day Treacy will be back at the helm.
Sir Nick was speaking at the Faldo Series World Finals which has attracted 77 of the best young golfers in the world from 16 different countries to Fermanagh this week.
Faldo, who designed the championship course at Lough Erne, further revealed that having spoken with Jim Treacy this week, that Jim remains determined to get the resort back.
"Any time you do a project with somebody, from day one, the whole concept of it, you build up a relationship and he did it so well. Jim said at the start that 'I have an opportunity to do this Five Star and really make something special' and he did. Credit to him, he went for it and it is so harsh, you spend so much time getting there, to just get going and in come the bean counters. So he is determined to get it back and is in good form.
"When a man puts his heart and soul into a project, it is nice that it has heart and soul which this has and that is the important thing. This is a one off, it's busy, gets good reviews and needs time. It's a harsh world when people come in and only look at the bottom line."
Faldo admitted that the recent success for Northern Ireland golfers can only help Northern Ireland become a major destination for golf which should help Lough Erne and that Rory becoming the first male who has come through the Faldo series to win a major can only boost the series.
McIlroy, the Touring Professional for Lough Erne was at the resort on Monday giving a clinic to the young golfers and Faldo believes his win and the wins of Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke can only inspire young golfers in Fermanagh and beyond.
"Rory is the first male major winner to come from the series. It was wonderful to have Rory here on Monday at the clinic for the young golfers. And he confirmed that the world finals would be coming back to Lough Erne next year. "We are contracted for a third year so we will back next year," he said.
