15 staff to be laid off at Lough Erne Golf Resort
A number of staff at the Lough Erne Hotel and Golf Resort are to made redundant in the coming weeks, the firm acting as administrator for the resort has confirmed.
It is understood that 15 staff within the resort are to be redundant as well as three therapists from the Thai Spa. Staff were informed at the beginning of the week.
Administrator KPMG refused to be drawn on figures but confirmed that redundancies are to take place. "We have conducted a thorough commercial and economic review of operations at the resort and regret to announce that there will a number of redundancies in the near future. These redundancies are sadly unavoidable and are as a result of a continued need to ensure the most cost effective and efficient running of the resort," a statement released on Tuesday said.
KPMG went on to say that it is committed to the continued operation of the resort leading to its sale.
"We are nonetheless fully committed to continuing with our stated intentions of operating the resort and maintaining the excellent standards and reputation gained since the resort opened with a view to the ultimate successful sale of the operation," the statement added.
In May this year John Hansen and Stuart Irwin of KPMG in Belfast were appointed Joint Administrators of Castle Hume Leisure Limited, which owns the Lough Erne Hotel and Golf Resort. The 59 bed five star hotel opened in 2007 and includes an 18 hole PGA golf course designed by Nick Faldo, a restaurant and a conference centre, the Thai Spa and leisure centre. The resort also includes 25 golf lodges leased back from investors and 30 holiday homes.
In May, Mr. Hansen said: "It is our intention to continue trading and keep this outstanding resort open for 'business as usual' including weddings and all other bookings. The Joint Administrators will seek to find a new owner. However, in the meantime it is our intention to keep the business open and indeed drive the business forward at every opportunity."
At that stage on the issue of jobs at the resort, Mr. Hansen had said: "It is early in the Administration process, but our intention at present is to keep the workforce intact. We will keep all matters under review in the coming days and weeks. Given the great location and our stated intentions, we hope that people will continue to book, and our immediate objective is to secure operations, honour bookings and work with the existing staff. We will look at selling the resort in due course."
