There has been double cause for celebration over Christmas and New Year for Eileen Kenny, a native of Enniskillen, who is to receive the MBE for services to Further Education in Northern Ireland in the New Year 2012 Honours List. Only a matter of days earlier, her first grandchild was born on Christmas Day.
All in all, it has been an exciting spell for Eileen, Head of Quality in South West College covering campuses in Enniskillen, Dungannon, Cookstown, and Omagh.
Although she now lives in Omagh, Eileen is formerly McCutcheon from Enniskillen, where she holds strong links and enjoys visiting. A former student of Enniskillen High School and Enniskillen Technical College, she did her teacher training in commercial subjects at college in Londonderry.
Eileen started her teaching career in 1970 at the former Omagh Technical College. Following the merger of the colleges, she became involved in all the campuses.
She married David Kenny in 1974 and the couple who settled in Omagh have two daughters, Judith and Davinia. Their first granddaughter Hollie was born on Christmas Day at the Altnagelvin Hospital, a daughter of Davina and Andy McFarland. Their other daughter Judith is married to Eoghan Crawford.
