Tyrone game will be great test for boys - Canavan
Peter Canavan faces his sternest test yet as Fermanagh manager when he brings his side to Healy Park tomorrow (Wednesday) night to take on his native Tyrone.
Tyrone legend Canavan captained the Red Hands to their first All Ireland success in 2003 but in Omagh he will have his first taste of managing a team against Tyrone. For the six time All Star though it is the type of game he feels is perfect for letting him know more about his new charges.
"We knew it was coming, and together as a management we said it's an ideal situation from the point of view of testing out players," he commented. "A lot of our players would admit themselves their fitness levels aren't what they should be, but in terms of football it will be a great experience for them and a good chance for us to see exactly what they are made of. Everybody is well aware of the quality that exists in the Tyrone set up so it will be a great test for our boys and something we're looking forward to."
And experienced defender Niall Bogue has echoed his manager's sentiments. Bogue has produced two good performances to date in the McKenna Cup but knows that it will be a big test tomorrow night.
"It will definitely be a good test, they have one of the top teams in the country over the last ten or 12 years," stated the Kinawley man. "It is not easy to go to Healy Park and get anything out it but to improve as a footballer that is where you want to test yourself. You want to play against the best counties and we'll be looking forward to it but it certainly won't be easy."
