Mrs. Elizabeth Gladys Saunderson
Mrs. Elizabeth Gladys Saunderson (née Irvine) passed away peacefully on December 12, 2011 in Ward 10, Erne Hospital, Enniskillen.
Gladys, as she was affectionately known, was born in Lisgoole on May 8, 1938, the eldest daughter of William James and Lily Florence Irvine. She had six brothers and two sisters.
Gladys grew up on the estate at Lisgoole Abbey where her father was a gardener.
Her mother died young at the age of 43 leaving her, as the eldest daughter, to help raise her brothers and sisters.
After leaving Jones Memorial School, Gladys worked in Anderson's Hardware and served nine years in Taylor Woods, Enniskillen.
Gladys met Ivan Saunderson at a social and they were married on March 24, 1962 at Rossorry Parish Church. They lived on the family farm at Drumscambly, Derrygonnelly and had two sons, Brian and Geoffrey.
They moved to Enniskillen.
Gladys worked in a guest house, Johnston's Bakery, Enniskillen Library and the Courthouse.
Gladys was a devoted wife and mother and she enjoyed gardening and baking. She was a member of the Mothers' Union. A caring, no nonsense woman who was very loving and kind-hearted, she loved to meet and converse with people and she had a sympathetic ear.
Gladys was a very hard worker and in later years retained her independence despite failing health.
The funeral service and burial were conducted by the Rev. Arthur Barrett in Rossorry Parish Church on Thursday December 15, 2011.
Gladys will be sadly missed by all who knew her especially her husband Ivan, sons Brian and Geoffrey, daughters-in-law Victoria and Michelle, grandchildren Josh and Jessica, the wider family circle and her friends.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Austen Stinson of W.T. Morrison, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
