Tree hanging on telephone line
When pop star Debbie Harry wailed about being left "hangin' on the telephone" BT no doubt listened.
But when a man from Monea complained that a tree had been left hanging on a telephone line on the Drumadown Road, between Monea and Church Hill, they appeared to turn a deaf ear.
Yes, a linesman came out, took a look, decided this was a job for more than a one man band and said he was calling for back-up.
After all, this was not just a song bird taking a breather.
"The tip of the tree is still resting on the wire," the local resident pointed out.
Fearing that it might snap and fall, he also called Roads Service. A man from the Roads Service came and put up a Road Closed sign and left. A passing motorist took it down. Traffic continued to flow under the precariously balanced overhead cable and phones in the area continued to operate.
The initial report about the fallen tree was made on January 5, in the immediate aftermath of a violent storm that left a trail of destruction across Fermanagh.
A week later, on January 12, the tree was still hanging on the telephone line.
"I rang BT again and they advised me it was on their 'to do' list," explained the local resident.
As this was the second time he had reported the matter: "They said they would bring it further up their list."
Almost two weeks later it may have made it into the Top 20 but it still hasn't made it to Number One with BT.
Go on Debbie, show them how it's done!
