Man attacked former partner's 16-year-old son
A 32-year-old unemployed man who attacked his former partner's 16-year-old son has been told to keep away from the boy.
Liam McCaul, of Lurganboy Park, Newtownbutler, appeared at Fermanagh Court and admitted assaulting the teenager.
He was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months in the sum of £250 with the specific condition that he is not to engage in any act of violence.
District Judge Gerard Trainor also issued a restraining order, banning McCaul from having any contact with the boy.
"He must be kept away from this young man," stated the District Judge.
A prosecutor explained that at approximately 9.30pm on Friday, November 4, last year, police were called to a house in Lisnaskea where they spoke to the boy.
He told them he had been assaulted by McCaul a short time earlier.
He said McCaul had grabbed him by the neck and pushed him.
McCaul was arrested and when interviewed by police admitted having an altercation with the boy and grabbing his arm.
Defence solicitor, Mr. John Fox, said McCaul admitted grabbing the boy's collar but there was no injury caused.
He had been in a relationship with the boy's mother for four years.
That relationship came to an acrimonious end two years ago and McCaul was now in a new relationship.
The boy made a comment about the new relationship and McCaul became involved in a verbal altercation with him.
He agreed his reaction was unacceptable.
"He wasn't intending to cause any harm but to scare him," explained Mr. Fox.
"That was unacceptable given the age of the injured party."
