Erne's top emergency waiting time performance
The Erne Hospital has achieved one of the best performances in Northern Ireland for patient waiting times at its Emergency Care department in the last three months of last year.
Department of Health figures show that in October and December 2011, the Erne Hospital exceeded the government target that 95 per cent of patients are either treated and discharged or admitted within four hours of their arrival in the department. In October it was 95.9 per cent and in December 95.5 per cent. It just missed the target with 94.3 per cent of patients being dealt with in four hours in month of November.
Out of the eleven hospitals with Type 1 Emergency Care Departments, only Daisyhill Hospital had a comparable performance to the Erne.
The average among all the hospitals is 76 per cent.
It was not all good news though -- two patients attending the Erne emergency care department had to wait for more than 12 hours in December.
The monthly average number of patients being treated in the Erne department is 2,121.
The Erne's performance exceeded that of the other acute hospital within the Western Trust area, the Altnagelvin. Its best performance was 75.4 per cent of patients being dealt with within four hours.
