A 22-year-old farmer caught driving a cattle lorry without insurance told police: "I have nothing to say. Sure you know the story yourself."

But when Mark Thornton appeared at Fermanagh Court, District Judge Mervyn Bates said: "Well I don't know the story myself so you are going to have to tell me why you didn't have insurance."

Thornton, from Derrylin Road, Tonywall, Kinawley, said he had only acquired the lorry four or five days prior to being stopped and had asked a friend to get him an insurance cover note but he didn't.

He was fined £250 and banned from driving for six months.
