Speeding uninsured through village in mother's Land Rover
A 22-year-old letting agent borrowed his mother's Land Rover to go and get petrol when his own car ran out of fuel, Fermanagh Court has heard.
Simon James Prescott, of Dooneen Road, Glengesh, Tempo, was fined £350 and given six penalty points when he admitted speeding and driving without insurance.
A prosecutor told the court that at 7.20pm on Sunday, October 31, last year, police caught Prescott driving at 53mph within the 30mph limit at Main Street, Tempo. The vehicle belonged to his mother, who was in Italy, and he was not insured to drive it. He told police: "I was being stupid. I accept the (penalty) points."
The court heard that Prescott already had three penalty points on his licence for a speeding offence in 2010.
Defence solicitor, Mr. Gary Smyth, said Prescott had run out of petrol and borrowed his mother's vehicle to go to Tempo and get fuel for his car. He was stopped on the way back. He was a letting agent and his driving licence was essential to him.
