Mother of four crashed and was three times legal limit
A 35-year-old mother of four found sitting in a crashed car in the early hours of the morning was over three times the legal alcohol limit.
Donna Smith, of Carnwood, Lisnaskea, appeared at Fermanagh Court and admitted driving with excess alcohol. She was fined £300 and banned from driving for 18 months.
A prosecutor told the court that at 2.55am on Friday, January 6, police found a people carrier sitting near a roundabout on the Nutfield Road at Lisnaskea. The car's lights were on but the engine was not running. There was severe damage to the front, driver's side wheel. A nearby road sign and traffic island were also damaged. Smith was sitting in the driver's seat of the car. There was a smell of alcohol from her and her eyes were glazed and speech slurred. She said she was on her way home. She was taken to Enniskillen Police Station where a sample of her breath produced an alcohol reading of 109 - three times the legal limit of 35.
Defence solicitor, Mr. Myles McManus, said the car was seized by the police and Smith had to pay £250 to get it back and £260 to have it repaired.
He said he had to accept the alcohol reading was high. Smith had been drinking glasses of wine and after a brief break drinking coffee decided she was all right to drive.
