A 31-year-old man has blamed a "mis-communication" between him and his wife for him driving without insurance.

Gareth Phair, of Spout Road, Fivemiletown, was fined £250 and given six penalty points when he appeared at Fermanagh Court and admitted the offence.

A prosecutor explained that police stopped Phair driving his brother's Peugeot 307 on the Moorlough Road, Lisnaskea, and gave him seven days to produce insurance. He failed to do so.

Phair told the court he thought he was insured.

"It was an honest mistake," he told the court. "It was a mis-communication between me and my wife."
