Jarlath Burns: I still support Sean Quinn
GAA star Jarlath Burns says he still supports Sean Quinn.
In a tweet to this newspaper, the former Armagh GAA captain said: "Yes, I still support him. I believe him and I trust him. Simple as that."
Mr. Burns and a number of GAA personalities, including Mickey Harte, Joe Kernan and Colm O'Rourke spoke at a rally in support of the former Fermanagh businessman back in July, but were criticised for doing so.
"Tonight we are coming together and like the founders of the GAA there is no power like the power of the people," Jarlath Burns told the crowd in Ballyconnell.
Commentators moved quickly to criticise Mr. Burns and the others and the backlash that followed resulted in the GAA issuing a statement to deny it had an active role in the event for Sean Quinn and his family.
The organisation said that individual members were permitted to have their own views on issues but added that as an association "it would be entirely inappropriate for the GAA to become involved in matters outside its remit".
It is not known if Mr. Burns or anyone else from the GAA world will attend the second Pro-Quinn rally, which is scheduled to return to Ballyconnell next Sunday.

Report commentThe reason the GAA say it is inappropriate to comment or become involved in the Sean Quin debacle is simply their reluctance to take up the correct and honourable position the institution could and should - it is not so long ago they were happy to put out the begging bowl to Quin and all associated. The forefathers of this institution were real men. The entire Irish republic, discounting some border villages and Cavan, is completely brainwashed by the relentless onslaught of media and government, similar to that experienced by the Catholic church. It is the 'easy way' for the Irish Government to focus the views of a timid brainwashed population. Sean Quinn is the Antichrist, the evil, the one and only person responsible for all their woes, 99% of the population of Ireland believe this. and it appears this includes the GAA who are too timid or cowardly to take a combined stand and state the truth for the sake of honesty and integrity. Unfortunately Sean is just another individual being trampled underfoot while most of the Irish population behave in a way that reminds me of the behaviour of the German population during the holocaust. The physical result is not comparable but the population's mental state, following the media onslaught of manipulation and the success of the 'anti Quin' campaing, is certainly on a par. The end result will be that Sean Quin's case against the bank is never going to get a fair hearing nor a result, judging the way the entire state agenda is being successfully managed. I am afraid it is Quin: 0 State: 5 goals and 6 points unless of course extra time.......

Report commentArt, you are absolutely correct.
Fair play to Jarlath Burns whose courage and commitment to truth and justice is admirable in the face of intimidation by those with vested interests who want the cover up to continue.
Well done to Rodney Edwards also for highlighting this story.
